Doing a another car-boot at the Rugby Club on Sunday,i was faced with a terrible dilemma,Mrs NFBF and i had agreed that nothing would be going back,it's either sold or given to a charity or "skipped"
My final collection of vinyl albums,a mixture of pop 12" and easy listening.(Herb Alpert and Ray Conniff etc.) were priced at 10p each,(some sellers still demanding (And left with) LP's 50p an album)
I thought that would easily clear them,a handful were sold early on,and even managed to sell "D'you think i'm sexy" 12" by Rod Stewart, (extended version) to a very nice Eastern European girl, who said "Are you sure"when i asked for 10p.
But by 1.30 i had not found a charity seller to give then to,so had to skip the remainder.
My collection of "Dads Army" and other videos, were brought back,as i thought they should go to a charity shop, but no,Mrs NFBF was told that videos don't sell anymore!
Luckily enough someone i know has agreed to take them, but i'm afraid albums of Herb alpert and Ray Coniff are lying at the bottom of a skip somewhere! crying.gif

Good job we still have You- Tube!

Vinyl's ace and sounds fantastic, but only when the music that's been pressed on it was decent in the first place. wink.gif

Video tapes can rot in landfills for me. Best consigned to history, along with the audio cassette tape. Physical media is almost always more pleasing than a computer file, though obviously less convenient in many ways, but all things tape-based are just too annoying.

Yeah, there's been a big vinyl revival in recent years. Go into an old-fashioned record shop like Grey and Pink on Brook Street, they're rarely empty and it's not uncommon to see teenagers in them.

With downloads and everything, music has become very disposable and there's a sizeable group of people out their who like their music to be a bit more tangible. Don't get me wrong, I love my iPod and copy almost all my music onto the computer, but simply amassing a huge library of downloaded tracks (legally or not) is not my idea of what a music collection should be.

Natural progression really.

Radio... vinyl... video... CD... MP3... etc.

Send your video's over to Midwest USA. Still see video's on sale in some shops over here.

PAL tapes won't play on NTSC systems.

Anyone discovered an efficient way of copying VHS tapes to DVD (not just buying a VHS/DVD recorder!)?

Yes, you can buy a VHS/USB adaptor that you plug the output from your video into and stick the other end into your PC and off you go. Recently bought one from ebay for under a tenner including software and it works fine. The link below is from the same seller as mine and the postage was very quick but there are lots of other sellers selling similar things. You can also get SCART converters too if you have that output.

Hope this helps

I've still got a box of Channel 4 red triangle vids from the mid-1980s somewhere - I'll have to fish em out so I can get all nostalgic for the joys of soft porn prior to tinternet being invented rolleyes.gif

My brother works in a charity shop and although they still accept VHS tapes 90% of them dont sell and end up being thrown away.

A few years back when the 2nd hand DVD place in the market still sold VHS as well i managed to get myself a copy of the original cut of Star Wars on VHS from before the remastered versions were released so no CGI Jabba the Hut etc in.

Also managed to pick up a very limited edition special VHS box set of the first 3 series of Red Dwarf in a very smart collectors box for £3 from HMV when they started selling off all their VHS stock dirt cheap a few years ago.

In both cases i have no interest in actually watching them on VHS when i have a DVD player but hopefully one day they will be worth something to collectors who just want to own them to add to their merchandise collection rather than actually watching them.
