Stunning effort though really. I've only been tuned in since 47-all. They look knackered, but they're still playing some top class shots. Can almost guarantee the winner will go out in straight sets next round after this, despite having won as many games today as some of the quarter finalists will win all tournament.

It's heartbreaking to think, someone's going to LOSE this. For one of these guys, this is utterly pointless.

Simply amazing. With the world cup on I didn't expect to pay much interest to Wimbledon. That's rapidly changed. I can only manage a few sets but if that was me on court I'd have died by now. Brilliant!

To be honest PoshJon none of these players will advance further in the tournament, they are supposed to play in the next round tommorrow. This will wreck their tournament but they will forever be remembered in Wimbledon history.

they have almost played the equivelent in games of 10 sets of tennis each in this final set alone-the players are complaining bout the light now

10 hours of Tennis 96 Mahut aces. Soon to be 3 days of scintilating tennis. Simply superb!!! I bow down to both Mahut and Isner.

Game postponed Muhut said he couldn't see the ball,wise decision,as the winner would have had to play again tomorrow! 59-59 in the fifth set,all tennis records for longevity broken,both players smashed the aces record,truely remarkable.
Without doubt the tennis authorities will change the rules,this won't happen again,there is also the health of the players to consider.

It's also why tennis is one of the most tedious sports on the planet. Drives me round the bend watching it.

Why does the score go up in fifteens, then in tens, and then you have all this deuce and advantage nonsense? Doesn't make sense. Part of the reason why football is that best game in the world is because you get one point per goal.

Strange system, but its simple enough once you get used to it.

A sport certainly shouldn't be judged on its pointing system.

I just find it a bit tiresome. Saying that, I've got nothing but admiration for tennis players, it's a very demanding sport

I'm pretty sure you're right, it is down to the hands of the clock. A clock face would traditionally be used for scoring, the hour hand was the games and the minute hand was the points. Whoever won the point would manually shift it a quarter of the way round.
People say 40 instead of forty-five just because simplicity led to the convention. Deuce comes from the French 'deux' I think, meaning two as in you need two clear points to win. 'Love' comes from the French l'ouef, meaning 'egg' or the shape of a zero.

I'm sure it will all be explained on google if anyone has the motivation to look it up.
