Crewe 3 vs 0 DCFC
After a cruel last-minute equaliser robbed DCFC of a victory in the home meeting between the pair, DCFC were hoping to complete the job on Crewe in their own back yard.
This was not to be however as a clinical performance from Crewe and a rather toothless display for DCFC saw Crewe nab a deserved home win.
Neither side was dominant in the 1st 20 minutes and chances were at a premium. Crewe had a soft effort easily gathered by 'keeper Rixham and at the other end Ash Dolan also found the 'keeper with an effort.
Crewe had a glorious chance to take the lead and were thwarted by a fine save from Rixham. The header back across goal was clawed out from under the bar.
Crewe started to pile on the pressure as the ball was not sticking up front for DCFC. The Crewe Striker pulled an effort wide when he should have done better and the number 23 hit an effort over the bar. Crewe took a deserved lead minutes later, a fine striker beating Rixham in goal.
DCFC started to come inot the game more as they pushed for an equaliser. Allen Jones did excelently to beat the right backbefore crossing for Dolan and Lambe who narrowly missed the ball. lambe had DCFC's best chance as on the other wing Evans' cross was towards Lambe who could not get enough on his header.
HT 1-0
The second half again started even with both sides defending better than they were attacking.
Andy Evans popped up on the left wing and beat 2 players only to be thwarted on the near post and a Hutchinson corner was headed back across goal by allen Jones but could not be converted.
Crewe extended their lead in bizaare fashion. The recent weather had made the pitch incredibly hard and the ball had been bouncing unexpectedly throughout the game. The Crewe striker had beaten his defender by knocking th ball past him. Rixham in goal looked favourite to gather the ball however it caught a hard piece of pitch and actually bounced over the 'keeper who is well over 6 foot including the hair. The ball bounced over the 'keeper and the striker had the easiest of tap-ins.
Perhaps even more bizaarely, from the resulting Kick Off, Andy Holliday hit a long ball towards Allen Jones, which was too central, the ball however bounced over the Crewe Goalkeeper who had come out to collect the ball and just wide of the post.
The 2nd goal deflated DCFC who had been pushing hard for an equaliser. Crewe started to take control of the game. Crewe's 3rd goal came shortly after, a well worked move down the Crewe right saw Watling get on the wrong side and the Crewe striker finsihed well into the side netting.
DCFC continued to have chances to grab what was looking to be a consolation. Andy Holliday Chested the ball in midfield before moving out to the right wing and Crossing for Allen Jones who's shot was pushed wide by the 'keeper.
Ash Dolan was close to grabbing his 12th of the season, battling through the Crewe defence only to find the 'keeper was equal to his effort
The scroeline could have been worse late on, the striker again getting in behind Watling but this time his shot cambe back off the bar.
