Battling DCFC fall just short
DCFC 2 vs Bury 4
DCFC came back from 3-0 down to heap pressure on their opponent but could not find the equaliser before the gam,e was made safe.
In a largely forgettable first half for both sides in windy conditions Bury took the lead in the 20th Minute with a penalty. Up to that point both teams had been full of endeavour but the defences were well on top.
A clever ball between the 2 centre backs of Mace and Lambe saw the striker through on goal. DCFC 'Keeper Gardner raced from his in an attempt to clear the ball but the striker nipped in first and the penalty was correctly awarded.
The Bury Striker took the penalty and drove is hard to the 'keepr's right for 0-1.
At the other end, DCFC were just not creting clear cut chances. Holliday had a cross from the right which beat the Bury 'keeper but also tom Jones who was racing in at the back post. Andrew Evans tested the 'keeper with a strike in DCFC's only 2 notabe efforts in the first half.
DCFC were defending very well however and only a freak own goal lead to Bury going 2-0 up.
A shot from outside the area seemed tame enough however when Hutchinson went to clear it hit a bobble and sliced into the corner of the net.
HT 0-2
At half time it was stressed to DCFC that the next goal had to be theirs however straight from the kick off Bury caught an otherwise-excellent Daniel Watling asleep and extended their lead.
DCFC did finally wake up after this. Allen Jones, a half time substitute for Ephgrave had an effort skin the bar whilst Ash Dolan shot just over from just inside the box.
DCFC did pull one back moments later, Allen Jones received a throw from Holliday on the right and was allowed time to pick his spot, bending a left foot effort into the far corner of the net.
Ash Dolan then had his best chance of the game, good work on the left lead watling to cross for Dolan, who didn't realise how much time he had, pushing his header wide when he could have taken a touch if he wished. The dismay on his face and those of his team-mates was clear to see.
DCFC continued to battle however and we having some joy on the left as Allen Jonesbeat 2 men before laying off the Thomas Jones who was allowed to turn on the edge of the box and fire an unstoppable shot goalwards. The Bury'keeper did get a hand to the effort but could not stop the fierce effort.
At 2-3 DCFC were resurgent. Daniel Watling was starting to join in down the left and had a cross narrowly beat Holliday at the far post and Holliday had a goal-bound effort which struck Phill Lambe. Allen Jones shot again just over and Hutchinson had an effort from range which went wide.
DCFC contuinued to push forward which started to leave gaps at the back. Gardner made 2 class saves to keep the DCFC momentum but was finally beaten again 2 minutes from time when bury sealed the win.
