DCFC 1 vs 1 AFC Wimbledon
DCFC signed off October in style with a superb battling performance which left them wondering whether they really should have won the game.
AFC Wimbledon came to chester in excellent form but were cetainly made to look ordinary by DCFC who dominated for long periods and who's 'keeper did not have a save to make.
DCFC had the first chance of the match, a smart move down the left involving Joe Cartwright and Tom Jones lead to Cartwright crossing into the box. The ball was half cleared to Andy Holliday who hit a first time low drive which unfortunately struck Tom Vickers and was cleared to safety.
Joe Cartwright had the next chance shooting from range and the AFC 'keeper gathering his effort.
AFC were in the game and were passing the ball well without really hurting DCFC.
It was AFC who took the lead however, they were awarded a corner which was swung in left-footed. The ball found the AFC No.16 and Matthew Darlington. Darlington got his foot to the ball but the ball fortuitously stuck in the No.16s midriff and fell kindly for him to toe-poke home.
DCFC continued to have more chances Hutchinson shot from range and found the 'keeper and a Holliday corner caused havoc in the AFC box but was finally cleared.
AFC felt they should have been awarded a penalty after their striker was put through on goal. Jay Garner reacted quickly and came out to clear the ball for a corner, he took the man clean out but clearly played the ball and the referee awarded the corner despite the protests.
HT 0 - 1
The second half started much the same with DCFC on top. Holliday had a free-kick gathered by the 'keeper and Tom Vickers put Joe Cartwright through but he could not get his shot away.
DCFC then had their best cance of the game. A superb ball put Tom Jones clean through and one-on-one with the 'keeper. Tom took a heavy touch and the AFC 'keeper was able to narrow the angle, and unltimately saved his effort.
DCFC continued in search for a goal but AFC were also having chances, their striker fired wide when well placed and their No.7 blazed over from outside the box.
DCFC finally got the goal they deserved after great work fromAndrew Evans who had replaced Tom Jones the ball found Joe Cartwright who slotted home for his 4th goal in 5 games.
Robert Cartwright then had a chance to emulate his brother when similarly placed but his shot was gathered by the 'keeper.
In the final minutes is was AFC who were dominating as DCFC were hanging on, but they battled away and AFC were unable to test Gardner in goal.
