Aha Mary Hopkin, the pop idol/x factor of her time, after winning Opportunity Knocks in 1968.

Those were the days was her debut single and was produced by Paul McCartney, of Beatles fame. Whilst I know the song, I was too young to remember actually listening to it, although I'm sure I did, as my parents bought her LP. My first memories of watching Eurovision Song Contest was when Hopkin did "Knock Knock Who's There" in 1970

finishing second to a classier song and a rather fetching Dana even if I was only 4 at the time :D

Hopkin was also married to Tony Visconti, who produced and performed on a number of David Bowie records in the 70's and also produced the T Rex album "Electric Warrior". For some reason Hopkins twee folksy style of singing, and Visconti's production of Glam Rock and later soft punk doesnt conjour up the couple for marriage, but they managed to make it last 10 years
