From next month householders will be able to convert lofts and build rear extensions without having to seek planning permission.
Extensions of up to two storeys will be permitted as long as they extend no more than 10 feet from the back of an existing property-enough for a small kitchen or spare bedroom.
Loft conversions will also be allowed without planning consent,as long as they extend no more than about 8 inches from the eaves of their property. They must also be no more than 50 cubic metres in size-roughly the equivalent of a room 18ft x 12ft.
In conservation areas, loft conversions will still be restricted but single-storey rear extentions will be permitted.

Also there are new regulations to stop people totally paving over gardens,if you want to lay more than five square metres of asphalt or other impermeable materials, you will need planning consent,as there is concern about the amount of water that is being forced down drowns from peoples "Solid" gardens.

I can see the logic in the last piece, never liked paved gardens myself, but does anyone anticipate an increase in neighbour disputes, when the DIY enthusiasts get going on their "Homemade" extensions?

Less red tape, less State interference in what we do with our own homes, less bureaucrats needed, a big tick in the box for me.

i don't think it's anyones business what they build on their property as long as it is with in the guidelines.

The concern I would have is if the extention cut off light to my garden or house - under rules now you can object.
