Yes off and on. Sometimes I could click and its instant, sometimes it slow sluggish and required to be refreshed.
A lot of load on the server being my guess.

Krankie. Why is it that it zooms around and then PLOP,just dies for 10 minutes or so,and then carries on zooming around after????
When it PLOPs its not as if the board is busy either?
I know you do a job that no other b****r could be arsed doing, and you dont get any bloody credit for it,but is there a plan for a new board,or can these probs be ironed out.
Keep up the great work,it really is appreciated by the vast, vast majority,if not all.

Thanks the the support and encouragement. I am still on the case but it has me baffled to be honest. As you say it seems to go for a fag break every so often entirely at random and recover itself after 5 or 10 minutes.
It it happens when I'm on, restarting the web-server software, Apache, usually sorts it out.
I'm looking to see if there is any performance monitoring software I can install that could shed some light into what is causing the problem.
I've experienced exactly the same problem as the others, in that the server hangs for 10 minutes or so. Seems to me that some of the parameters must be being exceeded ie. number of items for certain tasks either queued or buffered going over pre-set limits causing it to crash. It must auto-reset in a few minutes and then carries on. Is the answer to which parameters are being exceeded in that table which was reproduced in another thread?
This site looks interesting but I'm not sure how relevant it is to the DevaChat server or how much control you have over the settings.
This one offers settings advise. Maybe if one or two non-critical processes could be turned off it might improve performance as a whole.
Clearly a complex problem. Best of British!

Sorry 3mm. Wrong operating system entirely, Linux here not OpenVMS.
I've upgraded the database software (MySQL) to the latest version. Will leave it a few days to see if that helps.

Sorry folks.
I've managed to knacker the new server completely whilst upgrading software to try to improve performance. Well actually the installer managed to knacker the new server, my mistake was trusting it and not bothering with a backup first.
One emergency database copy later and we are now back on the OLD server til I repair the damage to the new one

Whats the plan then?Is this a temporary thing?
What causes it,is it when The Goats come on,like some kind of allergy?
