Neither would I to be honest, yes you (The Doves) had one or two decent enough players but overall we restricted you to long range efforts, with one or two you should have put in maybe on a different day, but we looked solid enough at the back, were clinical upfront, and played decent football when we had the ball in the middle.

DEVA CHAT FC 5-1 THE DOVES

Saltney Ferry- Sunday August 13th 2006

On a cold morning in North Wales, Deva Chat FC maintained their unbeaten start to life, since their rebirth under the management of Lambe and Ephgrave.

It was a patched up Deva Chat side, with a few late withdrawals from defenders Andy Jones and Joe Mills, but the replacements stepped in admirably and never once looked out of place which will surely give a selection headache for the management in weeks to come.

The game started at a lively pace, as the Doves youngsters tried to impose themselves against their older and more experienced counterparts. The game was played out in midfield for a large part and it was nearly 10 minutes before debutant keeper Mark Jakeman had his first touch of the ball.

The experience of the Deva Chatters soon paid dividends however, as they took the lead in emphatic style in the 9th minute. A good run from Andy Holliday on the right led to him cutting the ball to EPHGRAVE on the edge of the box, and the older statesman of the side placed it sweetly into the corner beyond the despairing dive of the Doves keeper.

Deva Chat continued to dictate the play and the midfield quartet were starting to pull the strings, and some exquisite play from Holliday and Rob Cartwright nearly led to a 2nd but a timely interception from the Doves centre half cut out the danger.

The opportunity for the 2nd soon arrived however when a penalty was awarded for a foul on Ephgrave after 20 minutes. He stepped up himself to take the kick left footed, but dragged the ball wide of the upright with the keeper beaten.

This miss seemed to inspire the Chatters though, who did get the elusive 2nd soon after. 26 minutes had gone, when more good work down the right flank resulted in the busy Ephgrave crossing well for Ash DOLAN to beat the keeper to the ball and head into the roof of the net from 12 yards.

The Doves created their first real opportunity soon after, as an inswinging corner from the right was headed across goal by Alan Hitchin, playing in an unfamiliar left back role, but the ball sailed harmlessly wide. A few moments later a 20 yarder was struck straight at Jakeman and the threat of the Doves was over the time being.

34 minutes had passed when the lead was extended to 3-0. Good footwork by Phillip Lambe led to a cross being fired into the box which the keeper did well to punch out to the edge of the box, however he hadn’t banked on Rob CARTWRIGHT pushing up and the youngster fired the ball low into the corner of the net from 20 yards to send the team into raptures.

The joy didn’t stop there though as only 7 minutes later it was 4. In the last match Bobby FELLOWS had scored twice and the impressive midfielder increased his tally with a fierce left footer from 18 yards which went under the home keeper who must have wished he’d stayed at home.

Understandably the Deva Chat boys took their foot of the pedal and this point and this led to the Doves getting a small comfort before the end of the half. A good run from the left flank led the ball being played to the unmarked Doves midfielder who pushed forward and struck a sweet shot into the corner of the net from around 25 yards.

For some reason this led to panic for the home side, and a minute later a weak back pass from Rob Cartwright only found the tall Doves striker who was all alone with only Jakeman to beat. The keeper was out quickly though, and as the striker aimed for goal, Jakeman produced a fine save to prevent the Doves clawing their way back into the game.

Half time – Deva Chat FC 4-1 The Doves

The 2nd half began in much the same way as the 1st, with not much happening except in the middle of the park where Tom Hutchinson had replaced captain Holliday.

The game did liven up after around 60 minutes when good work on the Doves left hand side led to the ball being cut back and the striker connected well with a half volley which rattled the cross bar with Jakeman well beaten.

The Doves had an even better to chance to get back into the game after 66 minutes when Rob Cartwright was harshly adjudged to have pushed the young Doves winger in the box and the referee awarded a penalty.

The striker stepped forward and hit a powerful shot to Jakemans left but the keeper had guessed correctly and palmed the ball to safety and Stef Lambe cleared the ball to safety.

10 minutes later Deva Chat were awarded their 2nd penalty of the game as Ash Dolan was bundled over in the box in a sandwich between the keeper and the centre half following a fine through ball from midfield.

The young DOLAN stepped up himself, and fired the penalty low down the middle to complete a fine day for himself and Deva Chat,

As the game drew to a half, Tom Hutchinson had a good effort just sail over the bar after an audacious lob, but as the referee blew the final whistle, it was Deva Chat who were much the happier side.

FINAL SCORE- Deva Chat FC 5-1 The Doves

You expect a Nuneaton supporter to be a season ticket holder at Chester? As someone from B*Witched said once... "what are you loike, get a loife".

Nope i dont, but i dont expect him to come on here saying because i never went 2 games am not a chester fan angry.gif
Posh Jon
To be fair, people like BTiD and Toaster are Deva Chat stalwarts and regular posters and no-one had a problem with them playing. It's when people turn up thinking Stephane Gillet is a midfielder who's boosting the numbers at Deva Chat FC that the essence of the team is damaged.

Fair point john ! cool.gif
