We kick-off a busy seven days tomorrow where we will make the venture to Derbyshire to play Alfreton Town away where we look to record back-to-back wins. We were a bit rusty last week, but our performance was still enough to put points on the board, so in order to build our confidence up even further we simply have to win tomorrow. Our opponents look like they are going nowhere, and given Danny Elliott is ineligible to play then that should give us a timely boost.

Our last match was on Saturday as we beat Blyth Spartans 2-1 at home in a game that was hampered by the unfavourable conditions. We performed really well in the first period as we were by far the better side, and we got off to a great start as Akwasi Asante fired into the roof of the net to make it 1-0 to us early on. Meanwhile, we weren’t as consistent in the second half, but thanks to our opponents being poor we got away with it. Just five minutes in Shane Blaney got sent off for Blyth Spartans due to a very late tackle on George Glendon. We used that to our advantage, because James Jones headed home from a corner to make it 2-0 to us which sealed the game. Olly Scott did pull a goal back for Blyth Spartans to make it 2-1, as he poked the ball over the line following an excellent save by Russ Griffiths. However, that slight scare didn’t affect us as we managed to hold on to our slender lead.

Alfreton Town have had a solid if not unspectacular season so far, as they have spent most of it in mid table. The Reds don’t look like challenging for the play-offs, and they certainly won’t go down so they haven’t really got a great deal to play for. We somehow won 3-0 in the reverse fixture although it didn’t feel like we won that convincingly, and with Alfreton’s home form being quite strong we will be in for a tricky game tomorrow. Striker Danny Elliott is currently on loan at Alfreton from us, but fortunately for us he will be absent tomorrow due to him being against his parent club. He has scored five in three, and I’m not surprised he is doing well at all because he is being played in his favoured position up front, compared to being put out on the left here. Another former blue who now plays for The Reds is Shaun Tuton, another striker, who only signed a few days ago from Boston United. Shaun had a very brief spell here at the start of last season, but just a week into the new season he opted to sign for Spennymoor Town for more money. That didn’t work out well though, as he has since played for Chorley and Boston.

Anything other than a win will simply not be good enough, as we have to put mid table sides like Alfreton to bed. We got a good result last week, but we need to string more wins together now as we are now at the time where results matter even more. Also, we have tough games coming up, at home in particular, where we will have to do our bit to roar our lads on to three points. Looking at the forecast for Alfreton it has it down as raining all morning so there is a chance that it could be off, but for now it has been given the green light. I expect us to take our usual healthy following with two supporters coaches going, so let’s get that away end rocking. Come On You Blues!

Score: Alfreton Town (Morgan-Smith) 1-2 Chester FC (Stopforth, Asante)

Attendance: 628 (241 Chester FC)

My predicted lineup:
Griffiths
K.Roberts Livesey Grand Taylor
Jackson Stopforth Glendon Johnston
Dudley Asante

COYB!
