The first of two very important home games today against mid-table Boreham Wood. After last weeks abysmal showing we can’t perform any worse. The players need to provide a massive reaction in front of us supporters to boost their confidence. With a couple of new loan signings, hopefully they can deliver. Come On You Blues!
Score: Chester FC (Zanzala, Akintunde) 2-1 Boreham Wood
Attendance: 1,818 (50 Boreham Wood)
COYB!

Relegation nailed on this year i feel. Early days i know but my gut instict is we will go down. Make the most of the Wrexham game, it will be the last for a long time. Awful.

100% correct. The fans deserve better than this. We're being badly let down.

I thought he was our best player first half . . . rewarded by being taken off for Hannah, who was hardly in the game.

footballing wise we wasn't that bad, mistakes were plenty, Astles fault for second goal, poor marking for first goal, they did not deserve to win the game we gave them the points, Bignot talks the talk, barring one game were not walking the walk

Very hard to watch today. The game/performance was as dismal as the weather was. Not one of our players can go home saying ‘I’ve worked hard today’ because the mentality of that was depressing. The same old useless passes, backpasses and defending cost us again. Meanwhile, at the other end of the pitch we just can’t score. Ok, Bell’s finish was pretty good but we can hardly carve out any chances at all. We have slept walked into the relegation zone and it seems harder by the week to kick on and get something. As has been said, we still have 30-odd matches to go but it’s like we have almost ran out already. We are in for a long, hard 6 months.
3 points on Tuesday is a necessity now!!!! We must beat Barrow, albeit with a very low crowd again. Poor old Bignot having to work with this ‘’shower’’ .

Dont envy the position that Marcus Bignot finds himself in . The whip should have been cracked a long time ago but the directors have allowed a "second best will do " attitude to creep into the playing side to the extent that it is now deep rooted . He has presumably kicked a few arses and some of them dont like it . Before the season started a few people thought we had taken Macclesfields better players .Doesnt look that way now . Can we afford 11 loanees ? if not ,then we can probably say goodbye to the national league .

Aside from extra costs, the biggest problem we have for loans is that so far as I'm aware in our league the max of loan players on the team sheet per game is 5, when we need 8 or 9 to replace the crud of a team Jon built.

The players aren't all that bad, we just need to find a way to use them better. Tactics weren't right today, they tried to play far too much football in atrocious conditions. The greatest danger to us was when we had the ball at the back, it was taking us a dozen passes just to get it to the halfway line, and it constantly looked like any one of those passes could be intercepted at any time. The first goal came from a terrible, unneccessary back-pass from Rowe-Turner who conceded a corner from which they scored. If he'd just thumped the ball up the pitch or out of play we'd have been fine. They were much more direct and it suited the conditions better.

On the plus side, the new right back Hall-Johnson looks good and Zanzala looks like he could be a handful with some decent service. Where that service is going to come from is anyone's guess.

That was not the impression I got from the game, most of the players are not up to NPL standard. We have probably the slowest most immobile center backs in the league, a left back that can't defend and gives away goals nearly every game, a midfield that is static, clueless and doesn't support the defence, but neither do they go forward. Most of our most chances, few as those are, come from the center backs or goal keeper hoofing it past the midfield and hoping for the best. The MOM today went to a new loanee simply because he was less crud than the rest, and at least showed some fight. As for the rest, I hope to never see half a dozen at least again in a Chester shirt (and I hope that one in particular has played his last 45 mins). Worst team since reformation, beyond a doubt. All MB can do is hope to bring in more loans and then pray... a lot.

Initially Marcus Bignot cannot be blamed for this disaster sequence currently occurring but the way he handles the very difficult situation that McCarthy, Maguire and the CFU Board has left him with - but in due time (quite some time should be allowed) - we will learn if he is up to it. His two recent short term appointments appear to be good ones from reports. It would be just wonderful if he/we could get a point or two from fellow relegation contenders in the next two games we have against Barrow and Guiseley. These two games are most critical ones and how Marcus goes about things will tell us a great deal about him and our future.

A lot of the time it's fine margins between success and failure. Macclesfield are top with Lloyd and Durrell in the team, Dover are second, Richards came on for them yesterday and Alabi has just joined them on loan. Would those players dramatically improve our team if they came back? Alabi might but, by and large, National league players are much of a muchness. Just getting the blend right with what you've got, and cutting out basic errors(!), can make all the difference.

Bignot's quotes in the press/media are very similar to his largely unsuccessful time at Grimsby, he has a tendency to patronise the supporters with sympathy. Not sure he has got any solutions though, any more than JMc. Is the knee jerk reaction to go full time really going to get the better out of players whose lives revolved around part time?

We could train 7 days a week, but if the players dont put the effort in they wont get fit . The players we had in the Conference north were fitter than the players we have now . Astles was slimmer when he was in the welsh league than he is now .
