I am non plussed by this attempt to create another alternative stealing the name and hoping to gain...

This site seems to be the port of call for thousands of fans locally and around the world and this attempt to compete with it undermines years of continuity and hard work.

Also I for one don't want to engage with petty squabbling between users....switch to another one when there don't seem to be any benefits...lot of hassle.

I am sure I am not alone here with my sentiments....

Part of me thinks that this must be a wind-up by toto as how anyone could say that is beyond me unless they really haven't read the other threads on here about the new forum and why it had to come about, even of they hadn't looked at the similar threads on the new forum.

But the facts as I see them are these. I loved this forum, and it was the only forum I once looked at on a daily basis. I don't anymore because it has been fatally weakened and undermined, although not by those who have set up the new forum. This DC hasd been destroed because there have been no new posters authroised for getting on for 2 years. The Mods can't do this only the admin can. There are 2 admins, one who has not been seen for years and one, Krankie, who appears to still log on, lurk and then go again without either authroising the new member applications or allowing someone else to have admin rights to do it if he doesn't have the time.

And the fact is if you have a forum where no one new can join it and who hasn't been able to join it for a very long time then you have a slowly aging and dying forum, new new blood, no young people. If that's what you want toto then stick with it, you'll no doubt have a few others to talk to, although judging by the lack of posts over the post few weeks not many.

There should be room for both forums of course, but in reality without authorising new posters this forum is doomed. And without the admin issue I would agree that the copied name is a bit cheeky, but the reality here is that like it or not the king is dead, long live the king.

You will notice I haven't mentioned the other elephant in the room, which concerns the multiple complaints against one of the Mods in particular. Others will I'm sure do this, and indeed have on the other threads on here, but to me that is a secondary issue to the admin one.

If you don't want to join the new forum then that's fine, it's a lively place with lots of banter and that isn't for everyone I'm sure biggrin.gif

The inability for new people to log on is a serious problem, but I won't be leaving in a hurry. Nothing else wrong with how this forum works, the new forum that robbed the name is a poor imitation in terms of how it looks and operates.

If you're using the site on a mobile device (as most people now do), I'd argue quite the opposite.

I've had problems logging on so have posted as a guest, which I most probably will for the time being, the one advantage is that I am using it less, which means I'm getting less wound up! biggrin.gif

Captain Duff's response to you toto is mostly correct but he is missing one other item that is largely that we now have the limited number of Chester FC/Deva Chat supporters now split between two sites. That is most noticeable on match days. The split in distribution of people weakens the whole scene and contributions on both sites!

Good point James.

I also find it a bit confusing that they're using the same name and description, "Devachat - the voice of the city". It would help distinguish the two sites if the new one came up with something original (why should this one change? smile.gif ).

Still seem to be issues with this site regarding new members, which means for a lot of people the new one remains a necessity rather than just an alternative. Whether that will be addressed or not, who knows, it remains in the hands of our two board admins, no one else can do anything.

Another strange thing is that this site regularly has more guests viewing it than the new one. As I type this 70+ guests are on this site, 40+ on the new one. With a bit of TLC this one could still remain an important medium for blues fans.

As I've said before, I've had my problems with a certain moderator in the past. However, this site has been a source of much needed I for for me. I live some distance from Chester and can sometimes feel a bit out in a limb. This site kept me I the loop. I won't be abandoning it. Let's hope our problems here get sorted.

My problem with this site has been that after 4 years of trouble-free posting I have been banned 3 times for a total of 2 months and one week in the past 6 to 9 months or so. I have not posted anything any that would offend me after I've been the target of some unpleasant trolling. I've had PMs and emails from Canadian Exile, Devon and 3mm and they all insist that they've not banned me. I believe them so who banned me? There are other people with the capability, who are supposed to be inactive. I think if a ban is issued the person being banned should at least have some feedback about it from the banning agent.

Having a quick look at the new one for the first time in ages, seems they had a torrid Saturday night with guests posting various abusive messages. This is just what happened to the old DC when it wasn't so regularly moderated.

It still looks to me like a lot more people read this message board than the old one. If it's true that it is hard for new people to register on this one, that's the key thing in need of sorting to keep this one alive.

Yes a few guests got a bit carried away after a few beers on Saturday night but we have 3 moderators who are regularly checking for anything innapropriate and removing. The guest access is being trialled until the end of the season, and then there will be a vote to decide whether to go registration only or not. I personally like that it welcomes away fans to contribute and there are lots of sensible guests, but for whatever reason we had an influx of Wrexham and Tranmere fans causing bother on Saturday night!

Maybe you should limit guests to weekdays! biggrin.gif

Experience from the past suggests that a few idiots really enjoyed causing trouble. We had a guest forum where they could post to their hearts content and didn't interfere with regular posts. Let's see how it goes for you.

Yeah perhaps I'm a bit too trusting of society in general! We'll see what today brings with it being a match day.
