I can just spot you on the first picture AOTN. You got hair there!
"In my day us Cestrians never had pick 'n shovel like the Welsh up road like. We had bare bleeding hands when we passed the parade on the way back from work. Dipped them in the Dee and they were right as rain next day. And ready for another 22-hour shift with 5 minute toilet break. No snappin in those days. You ate the grass by the edge of the track and were lucky if you found a mushroom or a knocked over rabbit. Mind you, we never had fires to cook the rabbit. Nor knives so we skinned them with our teeth. Blacon's dead 'ard like. Then no one had matches to light the fire like so we used to rub sticks - even in winter to make fires..."

Bllody hell the goats bleating on again.
It was more the old piccys of Northgate and Liverpool rd that drew my attention and the old station in saughall .
The lamp that is left from the Sealand train station I passed the other day when walking down the path with the dog and I thought it looked odd but didnt know that it was left over from the station on that spot.
Ahh and goatski your all confused pal us well off folk in this rich city dont have to work we get people from poundland to do our dirty work.
Now get back down your mine and play with your pit pony.

Is that what you did with your free weekend without the kids
then mate, put on your best anorak, got a nice big full flask
and went out hunting down old disused train stations...

you'll be on Crewe station next with the rest of them, collecting
numbers and taping the engine noises tongue.gif

QUOTE (angel of the north @ Feb 27 2007, 07:40 PM) *

Aye! I cycle all over Manchester on disused railway lines (and canals) that have been turned into bike paths just like that first colour photo. And while I'm thankful that I can ride in safety well away from the the increasingly dangerous nutters on the roads, I can't help but wonder who's crazy idea it was to rip up the railways and put everything on trucks. Then build roads to take the trucks, which encourages more trucks so that they have to build even more roads, ad infinitum.

It could only have been a politician, Dr Beeching wasn't it?
