We have decided for our February meeting that we will make it a, one off, OPEN meeting, which means we will allow any Chester Fan of any age to attend our meeting,
But to help fund the rescue appeal for the Football Club, we are asking all NON-MEMBERS of the Senior Blues who attend, to pay a £5 donation which will be given to help the rescue fund.
SENIOR BLUES MEMBERS have already paid a membership fee so will NOT be asked for a donation, but are quite free to donate to the fund if they want to.

Our guest speakers for the meeting are, firstly, fans favourite, former player JOHH KELLY.
I’m sure all Chester fans attending will be interested to hear about Johns football career, and what he has been doing since he stopped playing.
Our second guest is Senior Blues member GEOFF WALKER who has moved around the country with his job, so has watched a lot football in a lot of different places, with the help of some slides Geoff will telling the stories behind the pictures.

As per usual with our meetings, Tea,coffee and biscuits can be purchased along with some Senior Blues merchandice.
Geoff Leith will be updating everyone about the future trips and events, and of course there is “Wendy’s Raffle” with some great prizes to be won.

I’m delighted to report that yet again we had a full house for our February meeting this morning for our first open meeting.
The meeting opened with a presentation to WENDY POTTS to celebrate her 75th birthday today, Wendy does sterling work with her Raffle to raise funds for the Senior Blues.
A big thanks goes to SB member JOHN PRITCHARD for donating some Senior Blues key rings to enable them to be sold for our fundraising.
I would also like to thank ALAN JOINSON for arranging and donating some vouchers for the gym at the Crown Plaza Hotel, which went into our raffle. Alan is a regular donator to our raffle for which we are always grateful.
GRENVILLE MILLINGTON took to the floor to tell us about his day yesterday in around Chester getting donations for the football club and sponsorship for his up and coming fundraising walk.

Our first guest was past Chester legend JOHN KELLY.
John proved a very amusing and interesting speaker, and had the floor in constant laughter with some of his stories of playing under the enigmatic Harry McNally.
He told us of his start in football at Cammell Lairds before moving onto Tranmere Rovers, before eventually moving to us in 1985 and the delight in gaining promotion with Chester later that season into the then Third Division.
He remembered playing under Tommy Docherty, and one his football highlights was playing against Everton, as an “Evertonian” was a big thrill for him, the game was played on Oldhams plastic pitch, and he remembered being marked by Peter Reid.
He eventually moved on to Swindon, Oldham, Walsall and Huddersfield and returned to play for us for the 1992/93 season, but it wasn’t to be a happy return as the club was relegated back to Division Four that season. John fiinished his career part-time at Rhyl.
One of Johns proud boasts was that he holds a medal for winning the “Cambridgeshire Cup” John Beck, the Cambridge Manager at that time asked Chester would they go down and play in a match against them, it turned out that it was the Cambridgeshire Cup Final! So John joked it was not a medal that many Chester players have had in their career, and he still treasures it.
The Raffle was drawn, and member JOHN FEATHERSTONE suggested that we donate the proceeds of the raffle to the Rescue Fund, a vote of members present was taken and the overwhelming vote was to do so. £146 was donated to the football club, along with money collected on the clubs new scratch card game, making the total to near £200.plus some individual donations.

Our second guest was one of our own members GEOFF WALKER who, has, to say the least, in growing up and into adult life “travelled about a bit” and he spoke about all the clubs he followed in that time.
As far as a playing career, Geoff admitted he wasn’t a great player, and his great claim to fame was breaking three pairs of glasses in one game!
He illustrated his talk with some interesting slides and programmes.
His football supporting began at Wealdstone, who he still has a soft spot for, and whilst on his future life travels he watched Middlesbrough, Swansea, (At the time of John Toshacks managership.) and Leicester before settling at Chester where he has been ever since. He is a passionate Blues Fan now home and away.
He closed his speech by listing football clubs who had settled on “Hard times” but was confident, like others we would get out of our present predicament.

Senior Blues committee member PETER MITCHELL then gave a short passionate speech about fundraising, as he is now on the new football club “Fundraising” group, there is no one better person to do that than Peter.

I would like to thank everyone for turning up today to make yet again another great turnout for the Senior Blues.

Yes I’m sorry about that, we have pens, badges, stickers, cards and Zimmer frames clearly marked “Chester Senior Blue member, Watch out!” Plus we have our own SBs pension book covers!😄
