Great to see some attacking football tonight,a willingness from ALL the players to be given the ball, and finally a big thank you to the ball itself for allowing it to be played on the green stuff.

PASS,PASS,PASS, not HOOF,HOOF,HOOF. smile.gif

Thank you Bobby,you're a dazzler!

KKK was part of this clubs history and i'll talk about him when i want to thank you very much, same as i would Sir Harry Mac.

Glad to see you enjoyed last night, makes you realise just how tedious it was going to the ground to witness Hoofball.

While i agree that the entertainment value was excellent last night and outstripped most games last season i still think you're under-estimating the work that Wright and Bleasdale put in to getting us out of the conference. Yes he was heavily backed but Hereford put a mighty challenge together and we did well to keep our nerve and get the points required. Don't let what has happened since April 2004 cloud your judgement is all i'm saying.

I accept that.

Its balance though isn't it?In my opinion, and others will vary, there was more harm than good done to this club by having him here.No more than that.

The football only became enjoyable when we signed Smith, but then again what do you balance it out at?Promotion or attacking football? Its a difficult one but i can't be swayed on this and i pity the next club that even considers the man.

QUOTE (Ali @ Aug 15 2007, 10:43 AM) *
It just goes to show you don't have to put 10 men behind the ball to keep a clean sheet, we tried to play football and two teams have failed to score against us, a MW team would have cracked because they tried to soak up too much pressure!!

We've been extremely fortunate to keep two clean sheets. Bar for some inspired goalkeeping from Danby and poor finishing by the opposition, we would have lost both games two or three nil.

The midfield on Saturday, whilst pleasing on the eye occasionally when in possession, was lightweight and gave very little support to the defence. Hand's inclusion last night went some way to rectifying that, but Grant and Hughes together are not strong enough.

The defence would also benefit from the manager playing the strongest available combination, and as well as he played last night, that does not include JV, and from what we've seen so far doesn't include Wilson either.

At this point in time that for me, Marples is a must at right back. Vaughan has done well defensively, that is except for the last fifteen minutes against Chesterfield when he was nowhere to be seen, but he offers nothing at all going forward. For whatever reason, BW doesn't rate Hessey, but he is currently the best left back we have and should be played until we can find somebody better.

For all the flair and attacking football everyone is drooling about, we're creating naff all in the way of goalscoring opportunities, with Ellison producing very little and looking anything but a sound investment at present. The only forward producing what I expected of him is Loundes - having seen his record, I expected nothing and we're getting nothing.

I'll reserve judgement on the manager for the moment, but he certainly hasn't impressed at all so far.

I think people are over-reacting to our opening two matches. Yes, the football has been far more entertaining than the dross offered to us through much of last season, but that is hardly difficult to achieve. John Danby continues to impress between the sticks, the defence is looking alright, but nothing better, the midfield works hard but is caught too far forward without Jamie Hand holding, and there is nothing in attack - we haven't managed a shot on target over 210 minutes of football.

For once, I agree with Sir Falstaff on this one. Nevertheless, it's early doors under a new manager and a, largely, new squad.

I agree with the above posts. its looking decent so far, but 0 goals scored in 2 games is poor. And whilst it is better football than last year, its not magnificent, still very often we hoof it from defence. but in between there is some excellent stuff so were moving in the right direction. Our defence is concerning, but once linwood and butler form a better understanding, i cant see it being too much of an issue, really. Midfield to me looks good especially out wide, and if we supply the crosses to murph he will get some goals, so its deffo work in progress.

i also think you cant judge us on last night, we were clearly playing a more defensive style than we will on saturday and keeping things a lot tigher

but what is great is im looking forward to rochdale so much right now!, something i never did last season

I agree with the above posts. its looking decent so far, but 0 goals scored in 2 games is poor.

Aah but remember who we have played, one of the so called favourites to go up and favourites for the league 1 title.
