The board of City Fans United are both surprised and disappointed at the recent resignations of Simon Olorenshaw and Mark Howell.

In Simon Olorenshaw’s statement, he referred to the fact that his views differ dramatically from the majority of the current board. We do not recognise this as an accurate reflection of recent events, and as such efforts were made to ascertain the substance of any perceived differences, unfortunately Simon Olorenshaw declined the offer.

Mark Howell decided to stand down due to a perceived lack of board support for Calvin Hughes following offensive Twitter postings over the weekend, for which we requested and have now received an apology; We have further requested a full retraction of the original comments made. The board are fully supportive of Calvin in his role as Director and lead of the Football Working Group who in recent weeks have been working hard to significantly reduce ongoing financial liabilities in the playing squad.

There have been a number of positives happening over recent months, including the fantastic fundraising, increase in City Fans United membership, development of a draft strategy and improving commercial relationships.

The City Fans United board are united and wholly focussed, and together with the working groups are committed to delivering the immediate and long term future of Chester Football Club under fan ownership. We ask that all fans continue with the great support that has been especially demonstrated over recent weeks. We are not out of the woods yet but together we can ensure the survival of our football club through these difficult times.

The City Fans United board of directors

absolutely gutted that Simon has left, this is the calibre of person we need to run the club, not sure what's going on behind the scenes, but it doesn't look good from a fans perspective, its great that people commit to running our club, but to drop us at the first sign of difficulty is not helpful at all in fact its very damaging, what is happening to our club ?

We remember things.

We never got a full and proper explanation of:
(i) what happened, when, and why the previous Board decided to spend all the reserve funds on what,
(ii) why it took so long to actually tell us CFU members/owners that we were in deep financial trouble,
(iii) what has been going on behind the scenes in recent days sufficient to cause the resignation of two valued volunteer Board members.

If the Board is not truly open with the CFU membership then we will be in really deep trouble. TRUST and TRANSPARENCY is ESSENTIAL.

As EltonbluesS writes: "What is happening to OUR club?"

Those of us who can not get to CFU meetings whether formal or informal depend upon local members to ask the questions if they are not offered as explanations and to disseminate this knowledge to others, rather than leave us without information due to the tyranny of distance. Remember that our distant financial contributions are just as valuable and important as the local ones. We need information about our club ALL the time and especially at times like this.

What has been going on recently at the Board? What will now be happening in the near future at the Board? We need to know!

Got no faith in reports from CFU meetings. The November 2017 meeting stated we were "slightly ahead of budget", and then in January 2018 they announced we're in deep financial trouble.

The full story needs to be told, fans need to know what the differences are at board level, and then people can decide who should stay and who should go.

What’s happened especially over the last week will have a damaging effect, Fans will now be wary of buying season tickets etc. Because they simply do not trust the ones in charge, A investor a local one with the club at heart is the only way we will progress.

This post should make Simon Ollerenshaw, Neil Young, and Mark Howells very proud. Behaving like spoilt 5 year olds and not arguing the case behind closed doors in never a good option.

Appreciate that, and we all hope the next meeting at St. Theresa's a week on Wednesday will clear things up so everyone knows what's what. I just wonder if it will...

Telling the story verbally at St Thomas's is one thing (if it happens at that meeting and questions are answered properly) BUT CFU members living in distant parts also need to be told if the Board still want our membership and support. And that will only be forthcoming if they stop messing about and behave as proper Board members representing the membership. This has been a lousy rotten football season due in previous seasons to poor behavior by previous Boards who did not manage Burr and especially McCarthy properly and allowed stupid player contracts to happen and also made poor administrative appointments that were commented on at the time they became open knowledge but then this year did not tell the membership about the financial disaster they had created until it was almost too late and then they looked to us for financial help. Treat us right and we will help. Treat us badly and we will walk away. Openness and trust is the only answer and to ask us if difficulties arise before the various crises hit as inevitably they will.
