Do you mean play Foy & Branch wide like Chelsea do?

Any room for Stan?

Yes, It also allows stan or brwon to come on as sub were I think the're more effective at present, the midfield is their to disrupt the opposition and anything else is a bonus.

There was a lot of abuse of him. You obviously couldn't hear it due to the fact that you spent 86 minutes shouting "****" in a high pitched squeal  wink.gif

Hmm, yeah I did tell Rush to f off quite a lot during the second half (I believe you also had a few pops at him also) along with the rest of the fans who had the stupidity to stay and watch this shower of sh*te. Problem with that? We were 5 down, hardly like it was going to damage our hopes of winning the game! Losing 0-5 to the Slop was a total embarrasment to Chester fans. Although I don't have a high pitched voice so not sure where your coming from there.
*

Well, the little smilie at the end should have been enough to tell you the post was tongue in cheek. However, your abuse started as soon as Shrewsbury's first goal went in, not when we were 5-0 down.

Anyway, we digress.

The question that seems to be being asked on here at the moment is do we shut up shop by closing down the midfield and risk the opposition pinching the odd goal or go for it and gamble on knocking in more goals than the opposition ?

I look at that list of home games and on current form only see Bury and Notts County as games we can *expect* anything from.

I agree give or take, we do have a squad of players who should keep us safe. I reckon another 4 wins would do it personally given our gap back to the relegation zone but with Rush at the helm I just see no hope.

The man himself has become complacent you can tell by his comments and that has got to transfer over onto the playing field. With players such as Branch, Foy and Sestanovich at our disposal we should be scoring goals but with Rush's hit and hope tactics it aint going to happen!

I think a kick up the backside of a few down at the deva is needed and a look at the current form tables should be enough of one...

I personally would'nt count on Belle knocking them in, Branch plays 1 misses 3 so you can't really rely on him & Foy & Sestanovich are'nt strikers or natural goalscorers so I'd punt for shutting up shop personally & hope to hit them on the break like Liverpool were doing a few years ago!!!

It's far from pretty & is boring to watch but if it picks up the points who's going to argue?

Not sure if any of you would agree with me, but the spanish teams often line up in a 5-2-3-1 formation as seen below. Placing the players in this formation by my reckoning would be like this with 2 wing backs.
----------------------------------Mckenzie-----------------------------

---------Edmondson-------------Hope-------------Elokobi----------

Davies----------------------------------------------------------Hessey

-------------------Drummond-----------------Carden-----------------

----Sestanovich-------------------------------------------------Foy----

-----------------------------------Branch---------------------------------

However with the inevitable suspension of Elokobi, we could play Brown in the attacking midfielders position in this sort of formation.

----------------------------------Mckenzie-----------------------------

Davies-----------Edmondson-------------Hope-------------Hessey

-------------------Drummond-----------------Carden-----------------

----Sestanovich----------------Brown------------------------Foy----

----------------------------------Branch---------------------------------

The untimely injury to Bolland, means that both these formations could be flawed. However both seem to supply the needed protection for the defence in the form of Drummond and Carden, whilst also supplying the intent needed to say that, ‘we are not looking for a draw’ formation, due the attacking abilities of the 4 front players, with Sestanovich and Foy in the same sort of position as Duff and Robben, Brown as the anchor man for the attacking players and Branch as the out and out striker.

How about playing Belle at centre half instead of the injured Bolland, at the start of the season he did have a couple of good games in that position.

---------Brown/ Macca-----------

Edmondson Hope Belle Hessey

-------Carden Davies----------
Stan----------Brown-----------Foy

---------------Branch---------------

To be honest I really think all we should be doing at the moment is concentrating on keeping a clean sheet, we really aren't good enough to try anything else. Don't conceed and hope we score at a set piece, well if we even practice set pieces??

Sorry did not see the smilie. The way you sound in your post it's like you know who I am, do you? You must be thinking of someone else though if you think my 'abuse' started after the first goal. In fact after the first goal me and most of the terrace started singing a Chester song to urge us to keep our heads up. After the second goal I started to grumble but the third goal was the final nail in the coffin.

Yes, I know who you are. You were stood behind me. Actually it was after the 2nd goal, there was a tirade of abuse. Understandable I suppose, but it did give me earache! smile.gif

Just out of curiosity, how do you know who I am?!

I'm sure it was just the odd comment after the second goal but all hell broke out after the third tongue.gif I was standing by your good friend Mike Griffiths, he's the bigger older looking guy who I go to the matches with.

4-5-1 is the best we can do with the current players. Elwoods looks best as far as i'm concerened.

If we're going to do another 4-4-2, we should try sestanovic up front alongside Branch, he's tall and strong and seems skillful. Just lacking match fitness.
