Yes, just seen that - slightly concerning. I hope everything is OK.

Wouldn't quite call it a 'huge' loss, but i'll agree that it is a loss.

Let's face it he's a back up cb at best.

Hopefully all is okay.

Really hope this isn't true. Very good centre back who does his job quietly and effectively. With Henneghan out of form and Sharps fit for the knackers yard he should be first choice CB.

Seems to come in for some undeserved stick on here. I'd shudder to think how much stick he'd get on here if he played as badly as Higgins, Hobson, Shaw et al played week in week out!

Sad news this, been our best defender this season, would be a shame to see him leave but maybe there are things going on in his life more important than football right now and that takes priority.

Shame, I don't think there is much to choose between the three of them at centre back. Sharps is probably the slower, but reads the game quite well. Kay is certainly more mobile.

Michael Kay has been and is our best centre back when played there and will be a big miss if he quits the game. He took a few games to settle in to the club but always performed at CB, but not at FB.

Whilst it will be a loss to the squad and I hope everything is alright for him. In my opinion to say he is a better centre back than Heneghan or Sharps is ludicrous.

Agreed. I wish him all the best and hope he makes the correct decision. However, to say he's better than Heneghan is just b*ll*cks.

Better than Heneghan, maybe not, more consistent, definitely.

Agree that Kay has been our best defender this year and will be a big loss, we are very lucky to have a third centre back that can step in without their being any negative effect on the team, who should be the third choice is up for debate. Still think he is remembered more by his poor appearances at full back than how he has performed as a centre back the past season and a half, which would be a little unfair.

Wish him all the best in whatever he decides to do.

Kay-Heneghan was a solid partnership last season. Sharps wont be here next year, its a real shame how this has panned out.

Very sad to see a player, and still a relatively young player, look to retire from the game for personal reasons.

I hope whatever it is that is going on with young Michael at the moment that he is able to talk to people about it, and that the club will help him get the support he needs.

Very sad.

Yes he told us at Senior Blues, very sad news this as he came across as a really nice lad at SBs, stayed behind to chat to members after the meeting.

I think he's underrated personally. Never really seen him have a bad game at centre half.

Hope he's OK.

the only thing that bugged me with him at centre back, particularly at this level, is that I don't think he has the physical attributes at the moment anyway to play week in, week out. Majority of sides at this level play with the big man upfront, and in a battle of strength I don't think he's got enough about him to compete like that. Pace wise and football ability wise he is able to bring the ball down and can play a bit and is able to give us an extra dimension particularly as SB likes us to play out of the back.

Always looked to me like he needed to go on an intensive weight training program to build himself up a bit.

It may not be bad you know. He could have got a more financially beneficial job outside of football. Thus he may not have time to train in the daytime
