Myself and two others went up to Scotland today to watch Dumbarton v Morton. The Sons took the lead in first half injury time, Morton had a man red carded early in the second half and Dumbarton went on to run out comfortable 3-0 winners in the shadow of Dumbarton Rock on a glorious sunny day.
Down into the social club and nearly disaster. The Scottish version of goalrush only covers the English Prem, and we need to know the fate of the Cumbrians. Cue a text message from Saltney Blue that they are relegated and the celebrations can begin. After a few more drinks in the east end of Dumbarton (me on Cokes) we hit the road again, through Glasgow and back down the M74, jeering at every Eddie Stobart lorry en route as we overtake it, get my drift? Now you know how when there is a car crash on the opposite carriageway, you know you shouldn't, you know it's not nice, but you just can't help slowing down and having a look?? MWAHAAHAAHAAHAHAHA! Heading south across the border we realised we had a heaven sent opportunity to p**s on Carlisle's grave. :wolf: So a quick swerve across three lanes of the M6 (OK, I made that bit up) and we head into the centre of Carlisle to find ourselves a nice pub full of Cumbrians wallowing in self pity. We ended up in the Cumberland Inn near the railway station. Sure enough, there were a fair few of them in there, drinking themselves silly and singing to keep their spirits up. Songs like: "On Loan, to the Conference" "We're going up as f***ng champions" :laugh1: "Premier League sh*t" (to some poor bloke in a Sunderland top who was caught in the middle of it all) :laugh1: I did feel genuinely did feel sorry for a girl we saw coming out of the city centre who had obviously been in tears. It brough back memories of the aftermath of our own game with the Posh and made me feel a bit guilty about what we were doing. But anyway, a gorgeous sunny day, a Dumbarton win, Carlisle relegated at last and a geographical and chronological confluence that allowed us to witness the fallout. You dont get many days better. -------------------- The hopes we had were much too high

Well said Krankie :thumb:
We've been through it all and the Dumbrians laughed in our faces. I particularly recollect them invading our pitch after they scored a 1-0 win and Brownie being caught up in the thick of it, and also knowing of a fair few of them in the South Terrace for that visit of Peterborough, rather than bothering to go down to their game that day. For the one or two of you who I noticed feeling sorry for them yesterday, could I just ask why? ![]() Listening to Five Live yesterday evening, there was an interview with the Chairman, and the presenter happened to mention the fact that it is not all doom and gloom these days ("Look at Doncaster, going up through the play-offs last year and now winning Division Three, and look at Chester this year"). However, let's hope it's going to be down hill from here where C*rl*sl* are concerned. Let's all laugh at C*rl*sl* and here's to a long, long dreadul experience in non-league football (for them, not meaning to offend non-league footy in general of course) :laugh1: As for York City, my heart goes out to them to be honest. Their plight over the last few years has been very similar to ours, with so much financial difficulty and corrupt ownership. I would have fancied going to York next season, too, a wonderful, historical Roman city like our's and a nice little ground at Bootham Crescent too. Here's to a swift return to League football for the Minstermen :thumb: C*rl*sl*'s staying down! :laugh1: |

Whoever it was, the only mistake they made in that was wishing the Dumbrians good luck

Feels like the revenge has gone full circle now.
4 years ago we went out and Shrewsbury and Carlisle survived despite our "Great Escape" performances at the end of the season. Now we're back in with Carlisle and Shrewsbury out. Does it get better? This post has been edited by 3mm: May 2 2004, 10:05 AM -------------------- On match days ... we ALL play!

Does it get better? If you're going to bear grudges, I suppose you could include Exeter among that lot - it was their pathetic performance against the Shrews that condemned yourselves to Conference football, after all. The responses on that thread sort of sum up the level of intellect of Carlisle fans' don't they?
Chester are Scouse? Methinks they need to brush up on their geography. As for you returning to the Conference and them passing you lot on their way up, that's just wishful thinking... |

It'a an amazing coincidence but after reading those replies I do believe that the IQ of the average Carlisle fan is exactly equal to the number of points they won this season!

:punk: That place so much reminds me of something out of the Twilight zone....mention an Eddie Stobart Lorry up there and it's like fire has just been invented.

Yes well done in buying yourselves out of the Conference, only took you 4 years....
As the only former top flight side to be relegated into the non-league abyss, the quality of our side and our fanbase size should ensure a swift return. Be afraid...... |
