Ok, I appreciare this is a devisive thread, but to anyone in their late thirties / early 40s knows the score; its was one or the other.

Friendships were lost over this issue, but Im a commited ZX Speccy fan, surely one of the greatest thing a man has ever made.

ZX Spectrum or the C64 crew, which side did you fall in ?

As you can see from my other thread I was a 'speccy' I can't even say the words 'Manic Minor' without a big grin on my face.

A fine sequal in Jet-Set-Willy. Spectrum hands down for me.

Wow this is geeky, but such good memories. I mean what else were you supposed to do in those days, 4 channels of SH*TE, no mobile phones, No Wii, Xbox or PS3.
Spectrum was all we had.
bless.

Had both but to be honest the spectrum couldn't be touched. Although the commodore games looked better the speccy games were far more playable.

Probably going up in price every year mate. A collectors item. I would snap one up if I saw one. Don't tell me all the rubber keys are still in tact.

Does anyone remember they had to programme in their own games, typing code out of magazines. You had to do it all in one hit, and then you had to tape the data. I remember Spacman and City Bomber.

Then there were the games you went out and bought, like Jet Pack, Manic Minor, Skool Daze, Tapper, Attic Attack. Oh my, this is getting emotional. Nostalgia hey!

Yep Spectrum for me too, although I did have a C64 later on. Loved playing "The Double" on the speccy, spent many an hour as manager of Chester on that!

Most of the games's copyrights have now expired so its free to download them, all you need it a good emulator and you can take a step back in time.

Try http://www.worldofspectrum.org/emulators.html

Its sad that the current generation have lost the skill of programming, was definitely a skill that has helped me in my Engineering career.

Quality. Who thought of those titles? I played Jetpac for hours on end, building those rockets, lasering the f**k out of anything that came my way.

I forgot all about Cookie. I just looked it up on You-tube. Ant Attack was another favourite. So was Commando. That was one of the few games which I thought looked much better on the Commodore, as did Elite.

100 Spectrum games in ten minutes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkL1jNvkqVU...feature=related

Chequered Flag was another favourite.

Match Day was great until it resulted in a massive fight with my brother in a two player game. It erupted after slightly touching eachother's fingers whilst sharing the keyboard.

He was too far ahead of his time with that. If it had been released first time round in these greener days, I reckon they would have sold loads. I doubt if anybody would take the risk now though. I bet they are worth a few Bob now as collectors items. I remember a girl at QPH bought one, as you were legally allowed to use them on the road at the age of 14.

Christ that programming brings back memories. Seems very logical, which of course it is. So I take it you got a repeated print of "Chester City".

Would that have been filling the page or like this:

Chester City
Chester City
Chester City
Chester City...
