So Southport have another home tie v Fleetwood. I don't like being bitter and twisted but when will a little bit of luck come our way? angry.gif

Remember how we stayed up by default...that's five years luck in one go....
As we get promotion at the end of the season you will be thinking: 'we were lucky we got knocked out of the cup or we wouldn't have been able to concentrate on the league'.

Saturdays game will define our season play poorly and lose again and the rest of the season will be a struggle and the gates will be back to 1700.

We were held to a draw on the final game of the season against a Salisbury side that weren't paying their players, which resulted in Hereford staying up at our expense. A Hereford side that were not only not paying their players, but were signing players towards the end of the season to keep them up knowing full well that they couldn't pay them. Not sure that I would call it luck to be honest.

!00% agree. What Hereford in particular did that season was cheating to gain advantage as surely as if they insisted that they could handle the ball throughout every match of the season.

Didn't Salisbury and Hereford play each other in a prelim round of the FA Trophy the week that Chester hammered Dover? Strange to see that the two clubs who conspired to relegate Chester that season have fallen so low after both their celebrations that Saturday evening in April 2014.

After seeing the draw not too bothered about going out of the cup on Saturday as it gives the club a chance to concentrate on the league.

I agree, it would have been a terrible draw as Fleetwood would have probably beaten us but only brought about 400 fans, although I'm sure we could have done with the prize money and gate receipts.

But if there was ever a season to make a good fist of the FA Trophy this is it.

Don't necessarily agree, as any extra added income would have been very welcome, given how our gates have been up until the Torquay match.

It would also have been a massive opportunity for some of our younger players to showcase their talents. Fleetwood are one of the few football league clubs who can spend money on players, and have a history of snapping up young talented Non-League players (Sarcevic, Vardy to name but two).

Imagine if one of them put a stand out performance in? Could be worth a small fortune to the club in transfer fees/added sell on clauses.

I think you've always got to be disappointed to go out of the FA Cup at the stage we did. Weirder things have happened than us beating Fleetwood. I seem to remember a lot of us groaned when we drew Southend away a couple of years ago, but that turned out alright.

As well as the money, there are lots of intangibles to a cup-run. There's a buzz of excitement in the fanbase and the city, and it gives the local (and sometimes national) media an excuse to fill up some of their column inches and air-time with Chester.

It's unlikely that a thousand would have gone to Southport in the league unless we were in the play-off positions, and at Barnsley a couple of years ago there was surprise that two thousand went from Chester. Apparently it was more than their near-neighbours Sheffield Wednesday took on their last league visit. You get the impression that there is a body of latent support that comes out and some of these must stick if there is a prolonged run. And if they don't, at least they've paid their money for a couple of matches!

Cant stand Fleetwood, I sincerely hope given your opinion, Ryan Higgins has the game of his life that day.

I'd much rather we were still in it . . . who wouldn't want another day like Barnsley away??
