We have taken on board the suggestions made some time ago to amend the scoring for the Predict-a-Score competition.
These changes came about due to the anomaly that it was easier to pick up 5 points from a 1-0 win than from a game with a higher scoreline. The new rules will apply for the 2004/05 season, starting with the Notts County away fixture on Saturday 7th August. The new scoring system is as follows. 1 point for predicting the correct outcome (win/draw/lose) OR 3 points for predicting the correct score (Chester 2-1 Rochdale) For those who get the correct score, instead of an automatic 5 points if you get the scorer(s) correct, there will now be 1 additional point for each scorer predicted correctly for both sides. This means that higher scoring games, where it is harder to predict all the scorers, will have more points available to compensate. The more of those scorers you get correct, the more points you will be awarded. Remember this will apply to the scorers for both sides, not just for Chester. To be valid, predictions must be made before the team news is released for the game in question. This is normally around half an hour before kick-off. For cup games, the prediction should be made for the score after 90 minutes. Extra time and penalties do not count and will be ignored. :scarf: This post has been edited by krankie: Sep 4 2007, 10:07 PM -------------------- The hopes we had were much too high

That's excellent, I think, and solves the problem right on it's head :thumb:

Do I get 1 point for getting the result right AND an extra 3 points for getting the score right ie. 4 points, or is it 1 point for the correct result and an additional 2 points for the correct score ie. just 3 points? Also, own goals. Do you have to name the scorer of an own goal? ie. if we win 2-1 and I predict Clare and own goal for us and Clarke for Rochdale, would I have to name the Rochdale player scoring the own goal? -------------------- On match days ... we ALL play!

I presume the rules for predicting the result and scoreline will carry on as they were last season - i.e. 1 point for correct result (e.g. a Chester win) 3 points for correct scoreline (e.g. 2-1) Just the same as previously :thumb: I'm not too sure on the 'own goal' situation, but perhaps just naming "Rapley and an own goal" should be fine :thumb: |

Predicting the score exactly gets you 3 points, not 3 points +1 point for the outcome. It's just 3 points, same as last year.
I'm going to make an executive decision here and state that for own goals, own goal on its own is enough. They occur so infrequently that I think predicting a goal as an own goal is enough of a prediction to warrant a point without having to state which player scores the own goal. -------------------- The hopes we had were much too high

Seems more fair!

Sorry Pottsy,
There are no bonus points on offer for constantly predicting Chester to lose. :laugh1: -------------------- The hopes we had were much too high
